CAA Atlantic hires Kurt Sampson as Zero-Emission Vehicle Advocate
CAA Atlantic is proud to announce the appointment of Kurt Sampson as its Zero-Emission Vehicle Advocate.
Sampson is known Canada-wide as a leader in the advocacy of electric vehicles. In his role as ZEV Advocate for CAA Atlantic, Sampson will spearhead all initiatives promoting sustainable transportation across the Atlantic region.
“Our mission is to be the leader in the adoption of ZEVs in Atlantic Canada,” said Martyn Sibbald, chief strategy & innovation officer at CAA Atlantic. “Kurt Sampson brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication and resources to the table and we’re very excited to have him join the CAA Atlantic family.”
Sampson’s 22-year career has been with Dalhousie University in IT, holding various positions. He sees this new role as an opportunity to turn his personal passion into his full-time job.
“I’m honored to join the team at CAA Atlantic and continue their important work leading the charge in sustainable transportation,” said Sampson. “I believe that ZEVs play an important part in creating a cleaner and healthier future for generations to come, and I look forward to collaborating with CAA Atlantic members and partners to advocate for their adoption.”
CAA Atlantic has been in the ZEV game since 2020, when it bought a Tesla Model 3 to offer the public free test drives through partner Next Ride, a program by the Clean Foundation. It also has a comprehensive ZEV strategy, including fleet conversion, member benefits and more.
“It’s no longer a matter of if our members go electric; it’s when,” said Sibbald. “And we will be there for them when they make that transition.”
As the ZEV Advocate, Sampson will be Atlantic Canada’s expert on ZEVs. He will collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and community leaders to raise awareness about the benefits of ZEVs and advocate for policies that support their widespread adoption. He will also work closely with CAA Atlantic's member base to provide resources, education, and incentives for transitioning to zero and other low-emission vehicles.
Sampson is the current executive director of the Electric Vehicle Association of Atlantic Canada (EVAAC), represents Nova Scotia on the national Electric Vehicle Society (EVS) and Electric Mobility Canada (EMC), and represents Canada in the Global Electric Vehicle Alliance (GEVA).
He holds a BCSc and MBA from Dalhousie University, as well as a partial doctorate in law. He lives in Gaetz Brook, N.S. with his wife and two children, who have been driving 100% electric vehicles since 2015. They have owned a Nissan LEAF, Kia Soul EV, and currently drive a Tesla Model S.
