Safer Roads for All CAA Atlantic launches 11th annual Worst Roads campaign
March 23, 2022 – Saint John, N.B. – “Safer Roads for All” is the theme of CAA Atlantic’s annual Worst Roads campaign, which launches today and runs through April 15, 2022.
During the three-week campaign, CAA Atlantic invites Atlantic Canadians to cast their vote for the worst road in their neighbourhood, region, or province based on its relative safety for users. Every road in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador is eligible.
“The Worst Roads campaign highlights the range of dangerous conditions that plague our roads and encourages repairs that make them safer and better for everyone, including motorists, cyclists, transit users and pedestrians,” says Steve Olmstead, Director, Public & Government Affairs, CAA Atlantic.
There are many reasons why a road can be considered the “worst.” Crumbling pavement, dangerous potholes, broken sidewalks, neglected bike lanes, poor signage and unenforced crosswalks are a few examples.
“Our climate is extremely hard on our infrastructure, and this campaign gives citizens a platform to bring attention to roads where safety is an immediate concern,” explains Olmstead. Votes will be tallied after the campaign closes, and CAA Atlantic will announce the 10 Worst Roads. “We also share the results with governments to highlight issues and recommendations for their infrastructure investment and repair plans.”
